The President of Turkmenistan took part in the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly

On September 23, 2025, the week of general debates of the 80th anniversary session of the United Nations General Assembly began at the UN headquarters in New York.

The session opened with the motto “Better Together: 80 years and more for peace, development and human rights”.

The President of Turkmenistan, Serdar Berdimuhamedov, took part in the high-level plenary meeting of the 80th session of the UN General Assembly.

Upon arrival at the UN headquarters, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov was warmly welcomed by UN Secretary-General António Guterres and other officials. Then a joint photo session followed.

The plenary meeting then began, and the floor was given to the participants.

In his speech, President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov congratulated the participants on the beginning of the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly and wished them fruitful work.

The head of state congratulated Ms. Annalena Baerbock on her election as President of the General Assembly and thanked Ambassador Philemon Yang for his effective leadership of the General Assembly during the previous session.

During his speech, the President of Turkmenistan emphasized the importance of coordinated interaction between states and international organizations for the sake of maintaining peace and security, sustainable development, as well as upholding the legal foundations laid down in the modern world order.

It was emphasized that the key area of cooperation between Turkmenistan and the UN is ensuring international peace and security.

The President of Turkmenistan called for the engagement of the principles of neutrality to promote cooperation, mutual understanding, and respectful dialogue as the main and pivotal conditions for ensuring stability and sustainable development in the global and regional dimensions.

He highlighted the preparations of Turkmenistan for the High-Level International Forum dedicated to the Year of Peace and Trust and called on the international community to actively participate in it.

In addition, the President informed the audience about the initiatives of Turkmenistan within the framework of the 80th session of the UN General Assembly.

The President emphasized that Turkmenistan always aligns all its international initiatives with the Charter and founding documents of the UN, as well as its long-term goals.

It is important to note that, on behalf of the people of Turkmenistan, the head of state expressed his gratitude to the UN Member States and the entire world community for the decision adopted in December 1995 on recognizing the permanent neutrality of Turkmenistan, which was reaffirmed by two subsequent resolutions of the General Assembly.

The President emphasized that Turkmenistan will continue to firmly adhere to its international commitments.

Upon completion of his working visit to the United States, President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov returned to Turkmenistan.
