A ROUNDTABLE ON THE OCCASION OF PROCLAIMING THE 25TH OF MAY IN ALBUQUERQUE AS “ASHGABAT–THE SISTER CITY’S DAY”

On May 24, 2021, a roundtable on the occasion of proclaiming the 25th of May 2021, the day when the 140th anniversary of the establishment of Ashgabat is celebrated, as “Ashgabat–the Sister City’s Day” in Albuquerque was held in the Institute of International Relations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan. The event was organized upon the initiative of the Embassy of the United States of America in Turkmenistan.

The Rector of Institute of International Relations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan J.Gurbangeldiyev, Rector of the International University for Humanities and Development E.Aydogdyev, Vice Mayor of the city of Ashgabat M.Geldiyeva, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the United States of America to Turkmenistan Matthew Stephen Klimov, as well as the Cultural Affairs Officer of the Embassy Jacqueline Moore participated to the roundtable.

During the event, the video greetings on the occasion of the 140th anniversary of Ashgabat’s establishment of the Chair of the Albuquerque Ashgabat Sister Cites Committee Alana McGrattan and the Founder of the Committee and Its’ First Chair Sally Alice Thompson were heard.

At the roundtable, the special importance of the 140th anniversary of Ashgabat’s establishment that is celebrated in the current year of 30th anniversary of Independence of Turkmenistan was stated. This is linked to the aspect that Ashgabat is proclaimed as the capital where the friendship, fraternity, good neighborliness, hospitality and humanitarian principles are triumphed.

It was stated that the declaration of the Mayor of Albuquerque Timothy M.Keller on proclaiming “Ashgabat–the Sister City’s Day”, has a special meaning from the perspective of further development of fraternal relations between the two cities.
