TURKMENISTAN DEVELOPS COOPERATION WITH THE EURASIAN PATENT ORGANIZATION

Today, on the 24th of May 2021, a meeting through videoconferencing was held between the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov and the President of the Eurasian Patent Agency of the Eurasian Patent Organization (EAPO) Saule Tlevlesova.

During the meeting, the parties highly appraised the level of cooperation between Turkmenistan and the Eurasian Patent Organization.  It was noted that Turkmenistan is one of the active members of the EAPO and is the first state that has joined Organization’s key document, the Eurasian Patent Convention.

The Turkmen side has voiced the key actions of the country on the national level, including the implementation of the Programme of Development of the Intellectual Property System of Turkmenistan for 2021-2025, aimed among others at the enhancement of the legal basis of securing the intellectual property and its harmonization with the international legislation.

With the aim of implementing the given Programme, an Interdepartmental Commission on the issues of provision of protection of the intellectual property objects was created in the country.  Turkmenistan continues integrating into the international patent system of industrial property and has joined a number of treaties that establish the main international classifications.

The parties considered the opportunities of expanding the practical cooperation with the EAPO, including the issue of raising the level of proficiency of the national specialists, as well as on the legal matters related to the protection of the intellectual property.
