On meeting between the President of Turkmenistan and the President of the Islamic Republic of Iran

On 11 October 2024, President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov met with President of the Islamic Republic of Iran Masoud Pezeshkian who arrived to Turkmenistan on a working visit.

President Serdar Berdimuhamedov expressed gratitude to his Iranian counterpart for accepting the invitation to participate in the International forum on the occasion of the 300th anniversary of the birth of poet and thinker Magtymguly Fragi. Taking the opportunity, the President of Turkmenistan once again warmly congratulated President Masoud Pezeshkian on his election to the high state post and wished him great success in his activities.

Expressing gratitude for the hospitality and congratulations, President Pezeshkian conveyed warm words of greetings from the Supreme Spiritual Leader of the Islamic Republic of Iran Ayatollah Sayyid Ali Khamenei.

It was emphasized at the meeting that Turkmenistan’s foreign policy places a special emphasis on strengthening relations with the Islamic Republic of Iran. Guided by the legitimate status of positive neutrality, Turkmenistan continues its fruitful cooperation with the Islamic Republic of Iran in various areas.

During the meeting, the sides exchanged views on the bilateral partnership in political-diplomatic, trade-economic, cultural and humanitarian fields, as well as touched upon international and regional issues.

It was noted that inter-parliamentary ties play an important role in the political and diplomatic interaction. The inter-parliamentary friendship group of the two countries is successfully working in this regard. In this context the usefulness of holding regular meetings of the group, which is of great importance in the activation of inter-parliamentary relations, was noted.

It was emphasized during the meeting that the countries effectively cooperate within the framework of regional and reputable organizations, including the United Nations, the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation, the Economic Cooperation Organization and others. It has become a noble tradition for Turkmenistan and Iran to support each other’s initiatives within international platforms.

The sides discussed trade and economic ties, as well as cooperation in the cultural and humanitarian spheres, particularly in science, education, health care, physical training and sports.

During the meeting, the President of Turkmenistan once again expressed gratitude for holding joint cultural events in the Islamic Republic of Iran in May this year on the occasion of the anniversary of Magtymguly Fragi.

At the end of the meeting, President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov and President of the Islamic Republic of Iran Masoud Pezeshkian exchanged best wishes and expressed confidence in further successful development of interstate cooperation based on the principles of good neighbourliness, friendship and brotherhood for the benefit of the peoples of the two countries.
